There is a difference between oxidization and reduction.

Oxidization is a chemical reaction or process whereby oxygen atoms or molecules are added to a compound and hydrogen atoms are removed.

Typical oxidization processes in a salon are hair color, perm neutraliser or powder lightener.

Reduction is a chemical process or reaction where hydrogen atoms are added to a compound and oxygen atoms or molecules area removed.

Typical reduction processes in a salon are perm and straightening products like Straight ‘n Shine.

Neutralisation is a chemical process where two compounds with different pH values reacts to pH 7 thus causing acidic and alkaline products to neutralize each other.

Atoms and molecules are basically neutrally charged as they have an equal amount of
electrons and protons. Ions are electrically charged atoms or molecules. This electrical charge happens when atoms have more or less electrons than in neutral condition.

Ions with fewer electrons than protons are positively charged and called cations.

Ions with more electrons than protons are negatively charged and called anions.
